The 2-week rapid prototype
NO, IT'S NOT SOME FAD DIET
Our Goal
Develop a rapid prototype knowledge management tool for California
The Situation
The California Department of Technology released a rapid prototype RFP and asked vendors to develop a knowledge management tool that would allow State agencies and departments to capture, archive, and manage organizational knowledge from its employees and programs.
What We Did
We assembled a team of digital strategists, designers, developers, and subject matter specialists. Our prototype, California Current, was designed for the Department of Water Resources. It was inspired by the pioneers who set California apart as a world leader in innovative solutions for water management and conservation. Our approach included the following:
Development of personas to humanize the needs of the target audience
Used Human-Centered Design techniques in our research, including interviews and empathy building exercises
Developed journey maps of common behaviors, hidden motivations, influences, pain points, and opportunities
Created pencil sketches, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity mockups and tested our designs with users in order to refine them based on feedback
Identified an open-source technology stack for a speedy, lightweight, yet powerful user experience
Defined the minimum viable product (MVP) and RFP release product, a combination of which satisfied the requirements of the RFP
